Day 45

Today Heather and I began building additional raised beds for the garden.  Romeo followed us around and supervised the job!

Unfortunately, we didn't have the right sized nails and the boards were weathered and warped and kept pulling apart, so that has been put off for another day.

The weather was beautiful so we spent some time in the garden instead.  Heather weeded the tomato bed.  A couple of the tomato plants already have flowers.

And Jimenez, better known as Mr. Purr, found a comfortable spot between the two hills of potatoes.

Now that the weather is warming up the peas are really starting to grow.  See the then and now pictures below.

The zucchini plants that we finally planted in the ground last week already have two little tiny zucchinis.

Sadly, Romeo, the male turkey, and Roo, the rooster, are not getting along, both of them trying to assert their dominance over the yard.  (I think it is a male thing!) They have had a couple of fights and since Romeo outweighs Roo by about 20 pounds, Roo has gotten the worst of it.  But Roo never backs down.  Here he is on top of one of the dirt piles, dominating the area and crowing.

And in this close-up you can see the results of the last fight.

So I think Heather is planning to just keep them separated and have them out in the yard on alternate days.

Tomorrow is supposed to be baby turkey birthday.  I hope to have pictures to post.
